Position Summary

The MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing) Manager – Data Center is responsible for overseeing the design, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of all MEP systems for data center facilities. This role ensures high availability, efficiency, redundancy, and compliance with standards such as Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, NFPA, NBC, and local regulations.

Responsibilities

A. Project Management

    • Lead end-to-end MEP planning, execution, and commissioning for data center infrastructure.

    • Coordinate with architects, civil teams, OEMs, consultants, and contractors.

    • Review and approve technical submissions, drawings (MEP layouts, SLDs, schematics), and material approvals.

    • Ensure project timelines, budget controls, resource allocation, and quality standards.

B. Mechanical Systems Oversight

    • Oversee HVAC (Precision Cooling, Chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, VRF, AHU) system design and execution.

    • Ensure compliance with ASHRAE thermal guidelines for data centers.

    • Manage chilled-water distribution, cooling towers, pumps, VFDs, and BMS integration.

    • Monitor energy efficiency (PUE improvement initiatives).

C. Electrical Systems Oversight

    • Manage HT/LT power systems, transformers, UPS systems, DG sets, battery banks, PDU/RPP, earthing & lightning systems.

    • Ensure N+1/N+N redundancy, load calculations, protection coordination studies, and SLD reviews.

    • Ensure uninterrupted operations through regular testing (IST, SIT, load bank testing).

D. Fire & Life Safety / Plumbing Systems

    • Oversee fire detection and suppression systems (VESDA, NOVEC/FM200, hydrants, sprinklers).

    • Ensure compliance with NFPA, local Fire Dept norms.

    • Manage water supply, pumps, STP/ETP, drainage, and plumbing infrastructure.

E. Operations & Maintenance (if role is O&M-focused)

    • Ensure preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for all MEP assets.

    • Monitor daily operations, alarms, incidents, and system performance.

    • Maintain SOPs, EOPs, SLAs and ensure audit compliance (ISO 27001, 45001, 50001).

    • Lead root-cause analysis for failures and implement corrective actions.

F. Vendor & Stakeholder Management

    • Work closely with OEMs, AMC vendors, EPC contractors.

    • Conduct technical evaluations, negotiate contracts, track KPIs and performance.

G. Documentation & Compliance

    • Maintain as-built documentation, test reports, O&M manuals, logs, and statutory records.

    • Ensure all systems meet statutory compliance, safety regulations, and certification requirements.

 

Experience & Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (preferred); Diploma with experience can be considered.

    • 8–15+ years of experience in managing MEP systems, preferably in data centers, hyperscale cloud, mission-critical facilities, or large industrial setups.

    • Strong understanding of Tier classifications (Tier II/III/IV), redundancy planning, and uptime requirements.

    • Experience in commissioning, testing, and operations of large-scale MEP systems.
